I had a guy grousing about this to me once. I pointed out that he might feel differently if he flew 70,000 miles a year and spent 60+ nights on the road. He admitted there was some sense to that.
Many amateur flyers, the folks who do a couple of biz trips a year or only fly on vacations, think air travel is exciting, fun, cool, glamorous, etc. They also think there is supposed to be equality in air travel, sort of like getting on a bus. Well, there IS lots of equality: the people who fly less than about 25K miles a year --the majority of people on any given flight-- get to board later and fight for space in the overhead bins. That's life.
IMHO, the road warriors who spend too many hours on planes and in airports deserve a few perks. Getting through security a bit faster is nice, but early boarding, even without an upgrade is one of the best perks of flying too many miles.
And yeah, I like the break in the routine, too. Been in the office for a month now--too long. But fortunately a lot of travel is coming up.
