Tang was invented in 1957 at General Foods, before NASA founding in 1958;
Teflon was invented in 1938;
Freeze drying as a preservation method was carried out at least as early as during WWII, at first for blood serum and penicillin, then for all sorts of products including food.
Other silly claims about "NASA invention" includes plastic, when in reality Henry Ford was making plastic upholstery for cars as early as the 1920's.
NASA did not even invent false bureaucratic claims to invention . . . that's been as old as bureaucrats with shallow knowledge base started walking the surface of the earth and them having tax funded quills to distort history.
The real big tragedy with NASA is that so many brilliant minds over the generations have been lost in that bureaucratic labyrinth. A government space monopoly like NASA has really retarded space technology. If something like NASA had been running the auto industry, we'd have streets filled obsolete cars just like the soviet union did in the 1980s: full of cars with 1950's technology. Last time I checked, the Space Shuttle onboard control is still run by a bulky 1980's IBM PC class computer. What competitive private sector would have allowed that kind of dinosaur dominating the field? especially one where launch weight is at premium price.
