Did anyone beside me see Ezra Dyers column in the latest Automobile? Boy did that hit close to home. In essense it he takes on the notion that I and a lot of people on this board subscribe to--buying used European cars as opposed to new, lesser cars. And I hate to say it but he makes some pretty good points. I think there are some unique things about Saabs that he doesn't take into consideration (such as how cheap you can buy them used)but the automotive landscape has changed a lot in recent years. 15 years ago European cars were head and shoulders above anything else in every way, but now that's not so true. He makes the point that by the time he bought his '98 BMW M3 used, a new Honda Accord V6 had more horsepower. And the truth be told there are some pretty nice cheap new cars (I have to confess every time I see a new Focus I find myself thinking what a nice looking car it is). I still think a Saab you can pay cash for is a great bang for the buck car. But I'm really wondering if buying a 5 or 6 year old anything (and financing it for 3 or 4 years) makes sense verses buying a new cheaper car. When you factor in repairs it may be a wash--at least it was with my recent Subaru
