yeah, sorry, I wasn't really trying to diss the M series or BMW in general (though it is true that the badge is a fashion statement for many, not all, but many BMW owners)... they are fine cars for a specific market... for $5-10k (in good condition) sure I agree, they have appealing qualities (that was basically what I was saying). I guess what I meant was if he paid almost new Accord money for it (+ then was suggesting it wasn't as good performance-wise), the valuation is inflated... I forgot he bought a vert, so I suppose that probably also inflates the price in addition to a normal M. (if he paid less than Accord money for it, he shouldn't be bothered that it feels a little older aesthetically + has fewer HP)...
I agree also on the torsional rigidity aspect (and also surprised an auto reviewer wouldn't know better)... it's a vert... same reason a hard top Porsche is more appealing to track enthusiasts than a vert (even if the verts still are amazingly tight + fun cars)...
Of course, for me personally, I don't need ultimate track performance, so other drawbacks of an M vs a Saab are higher insurance + fuel costs... the idea of comparing a BMW M vert to an Accord is imho nonsensical...
James...
