Wallpaper removal is REALLY MESSY. Know that going in. I have used the spray with water method with great success also. I have also used a scoring tool and found that they do make crappy marks in the wall. Instead, if you are going to refinish the wall anyway, score the paper (lots) with a razor knife before using the wetting solution, this gives much more area for water to get behind the paper and loosen the glue.
If you are up to it, nothing works as well as a wallpaper steamer, they are handheld units that attatch to a water tank with a heat element, the steam travels up a hose to the handheld plate, you leave this pressed on the wallpaper, moving slowly, scraper in the other hand. It really goes quite quickly. I did six rooms of a house we were remodelling in two days.
