and have been putting it off. I already removed the same paper from the downstairs hallway and that wasn't a fun job with this stuff. Trying to do it on some sort of ladder or scaffold setup I don't even have seemed rather daunting and is why the job isn't done yet. I too thought I would just hire it out but both quotes received were around $800 and that is with paper on just one side of the stairway. Knowing how long it took to get the stuff off in the hall maybe that isn't such a bad price but it still seems rather expensive for something I can do mostly just with investment of time. So I guess I will look at renting special ladder or scaffold of some sort at some point. I really think that is key if you try the job yourself.
I should add that the quotes I received do include prepping that wall then repainting the whole stairway after the paper is removed if you are looking at costs.
As far as wallpaper removal as mentioned it can be very simple or time consuming PIA. Growing up I remember my mom putting up and taking down wallpaper a number of times. It was always as simple as yanking it down in one continuous sheet and a quick wash and wipe down of the wall to get the residue paste off. She never scraped anything. As I later learned that was because it was stripable wallpaper and the walls had been properly prepped. So was I ever suprised when we bought a house full of wallpaper and learned it generally isn't that easy.
