I was getting 15/16 with my Subaru H6 in mostly around town/winter driving. I got 17/18 in the same situation with my Saab (900SE 5 speed). I'm getting 18/19 with the Jeep. The little secret about mileage that most people don't get is that it's HOW you drive that makes all the difference. I didn't do anything special in terms of how I drove the Subaru or Saab. If I drive the Jeep like that it gets 15/16. Most people know that driving slower makes a big difference on the highway. But what I found with the Jeep is that acceleration is the true enemy--that's where you really suck the gas. If I use the Jeeps' "ECO" feature (it's essentially a vacuum gauge), accelerate extremely slowly, I can get as high as 20 in strictly around town driving. Highway is a little different matter. I'd gotten as high as 28 with the Subaru but 23/24 was more the average. I've gotten as high as 25 with the Jeep but routinely can get 22/23 if I'm really careful with speed and use a few other techniques (I drive 66/68) to get that. If I average 70 I get more like 21. So if you like to drive 75/80 and be the first person away from the light then a Jeep would really suck it down and you be better off with something known to economical. But if you're willing to work at it a bit, something like a Jeep can get respectable mileage.
