VM can't have believed he was going to have enough capital to operate an auto manufacturer with the initial round of investment he managed to attract.
I believe the only reason he took on Saab, was that he thought he would eventually be able to attract Chinese investors and/or sell out to a Chinese firm.
It was pretty obvious all along that the Chinese were Saab's only possible salvation. No other established auto manufacturers were interested (or at least that is what we've heard).
I do blame GM for this mess. Again, the contrast with the Ford/Volvo situation is instructive.
Please don't tell me that Epsilon II was more valuable than Ford EUCD. Land Rover just garnered "Truck of the Years" honors using the EUCD platform for the Evoque.
GM managed to score some quick cash, and now a good chunk of the public bizarrely blames Mueller and the Swedish Government for shutting down Saab.
I've seen GM-era Saab owners on message boards blaming VM for their inability to have their cars repaired due to parts shortages and the lack of warranty service.
To them I would ask: Who abandoned you in the first place, and made it impossible for Saab to carry on after the sale? It wasn't Mueller.
