James,
I didn't dig into this topic for last 5 years and I thought then that hydrolysis was mainly and mostly covered by Mordor researches. Glad for fellas canucks that you've put it into live production!
I believe that the whole topic should be bottom-lined into combustion engines: with all things considered it is inefficient to convert potential (in the case of current topic: chemical) energy into kinetic energy thru burning. Period. Whenever the source comes from oil, wood, corn, sugar, potato, tomato or whatever. So all the exclamations like 'they need some food there in Africa, you, bastards!!!11' vs 'Saddam stole OUR OIL! we're running out of oil!11oneoneone' is just about picking up the best from the worst and this will keep on coming until we give up combustion engines for something better.
Btw, anticipating the next holywar about electricity and atomic energy - it's rather funny (albeit sad as well) to see all those reactions on Fukusima accident. It's like the 3rd car accident happened in those ancient 1800's and all the world go 'your awful cars are dangerous and must be banned for the sake of humankind' while the real answer is that we must learn to design and drive those things.
