I agree it smacks of fraud and I'd be surprised though if any action beyond the mileage compensation to owners is taken - early estimates are that payout could be $79 M at a min. But Hyundai I believe has assembly plants in the US and S Korea is a US ally.
But I look at my purchase decision and fuel efficiency played a large part and the fact that Hyundai misrepresented that cost another auto maker a sale.
So in my mind there is an obligation for some US regulatory agency to take additional punitive action.
If I had the option I would return the car to Hyundai and get my money back.
