Dymaxion House

A project I've been giving some thought is a retirement/vacation house. Since my job involves living on site (at no cost) I have time and the freedom to think it through. Having lived in a motor home and a 42' boat I found that two people really don't need a lot of space and I like living in a relatively compact space. I also want something that's energy efficient with simple mechanical systems and some recourse for power outages, etc. So far this can all be had with conventional construction. But with all the extreme weather/natural disasters we've had of late I'm wondering if there might be some merit in looking beyond conventional housing. I've been reading a bit about the Dymaxion house and it has a lot of interesting ideas. It's round and designed to withstand high winds, flooding, earthquakes (by virtue of it's unique foundation). It' made of aluminum which would be good in places prone to fires. It also had a rain collection system, grey water recycling and a waterless toilet (it packaged the waste somehow). Finally I want something that isn't too expensive--I want to be able to pay it off completely in 4 or 5 years. So basically I'm looking for ideas and I can't think of a place better than the Saabnet Brain Trust for out of the box thinking.
