The full resto, with an album, and that the guys wants an XK-E says the guy is kinda serious about the old Brit car hobby. The stuff it needs doesn't sound unreasonable.
In most cars I've looked at the engine bay is rarely touched, which aways seems strange to me, although it IS a bit of hassle to yank the engine and tranny.
You aren't gonna get a concours show car unless you pay serious bucks, so something that runs well and needs the minor things fixed makes a lot of sense. You just have to accept that you're getting a car that's 1950's technology, is slow, fragile and needs regular care and feeding. If you're cool with that then go for it.
But a C900 'Vert in similar shape is probably a better car. But this is an apples and grapefruit comparison. One's a classic sports car, the other is a fun, classy convertible.
And either is fun!
