It seems like every week there's some new weather/natural disaster--hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, droughts, blizzards, wild fires, etc. I did a search and one said Hawaii was the safest state which I think is nuts--they have active vulcanos, typhoons, tsunamis, and if anything happens you can't get away because you're on an island. I probably shouldn't tell people this but I've long thought Michigan is about as safe as it gets. Tornadoes are very rare, we don't have earthquakes or hurricanes, the lakes prevent extreme cold and heat as well as providing abundant rain fall and water. We're far from oceans and all their troubles. Other than cold grey winters and quite a bit of snow in parts of the state, the occasional isolated flood near rivers, it's a pretty benign place to live. Any other nominations?
