Bad weather and natural disasters can happen anywhere and are unpredictable in terms of when and where something will happen.
Sure, you're probably more likely to get up close and personal with a tornado if you live in some parts of the midwest or south, or a bad hurricane in parts of the Gulf Coast or Florida, but otherwise they aren't more dangerous than other places. California has earthquakes, and will someday have a really big one, but except for not living on a fault line you can't worry about it.
On the other hand, there's crime, which is probably something to worry about if you choose to live in urban areas. Then again, there have been home invasions and murders right here in semi-rural New England.
