I stated wagon in the title but your right the article said sedan which is lighter than the wagon by about 200 lbs. The Saab makes peak torque of 207 lb-ft from 1800-3500 rpms. The same rpms for the 9-5/9000 Aero. The Encore makes peak torque from 1850-4900 rpms. That explains why the results are so close in straight line. The Encore has an extra gear for better acceleration.

Looking at handling the 9-5 was put to the side and the smaller, lighter 9-3 was used. Skid pad numbers in the .83-.84g range was the norm for the 9-3. The Encore, CUV I might add, put down .82g on smaller 215mm rubber in recent Car and Driver review.
