Consumer Reports summarized the Encore:
The Encore bowed for 2013, a subcompact near-luxury SUV derived from the small Chevrolet Sonic. A size smaller than vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V, the Encore boasts a quiet cabin, great maneuverability, and a better ride than many larger and higher-scoring SUVs. The little 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder and six-speed automatic deliver anemic acceleration, however, and fuel economy is just so-so. Handling is sound if unexceptional. The cabin is reasonably well appointed but feels narrow and cramped and the swoopy styling intrudes on the view aft. Reliability is unknown and the Encore scores too low to earn our recommendation.
I believe they rank it 21st out of 25 in its class.
Their 9-5 summary:
Starting in 1999 Saab renamed its 9000 the 9-5. We found it a competent car with capable and secure handling. The ride is firm and compliant, but road noise is pronounced. The turbocharged 2.3-liter, 170-hp four-cylinder (185 hp from 2000 on) provides ample acceleration. The 3.0-liter, 200-hp V6 is smoother, quieter, and stronger. A higher-performance 230-hp Aero model was added for 2000. Aside from styling updates the 9-5 was largely unchanged from 2000 to 2009.
Although they weren't in love with the 9-5, they did continue to Recommend the OG. [Saying they renamed the 9000 the 9-5 isn't quite like saying they renamed the 900 the 9-3].
