I find it hard to believe that a tall CUV will handle that well. Obviously in the decade and a half since the 9-5 launch, suspension and chassis technology has imporved, but... fundamentally it's tall, and unless they got the weight of the motor way down low, it's going to be an issue to some degree. That will worsen if one puts a significant load inside it, as much of that weight goes up not out (never mind that you don't want cargo spilling over the back of the rear seats, so cargo volume without a cage is reduced in a cuv vs a wagon). I've seen a few of the Encores on the road and they are pretty short, so the cargo volume may be there, but I'd prefer to have the car a little longer to keep the weight lower. I was amazed that the Forester held about exactly the same as a c900 sedan in real world terms!
The other thing about handling: different people have different objectives. The 9-5 handles very well as a touring car. But it ain't a porsche. Actually, I find the c900's feel much more like a porsche around corners - that go-kart feel... but the 9-5 is *actually* a little quicker around the corners... the c900's just feel more fun (but still planted)... Some people prefer a go-kart feel, others do not. So I vastly prefer the c900 handling in every respect vs eg a new Forester, or Acadia or Impala or whatnot... but others would find the c900 harsh. I find those others bloaty... it's partly a taste thing!
I'd be interested in trying one of these buicks as a rental next time I need a rental. I've generally found that GM does not do the fast off the line (to sell cars) gearing tricks to the same extent as the Asian manufacturers, and turbos in any case are a good thing... but I am still skeptical...
