Now that you have had the BMW for three years, you should have a good idea on its general condition, i.e. it isn't sludged or an oil burner. The prices that you listed for repairs seem very high, but I suppose it depends on where you get the work done, i.e. indy vs. a dealer. $800 for what could be just torn CV boots seems very high - I recently bought a complete CV joint (let the boot go too long) for our Audi A6 and the part was less than $100 and may be the only repair on a VW/Audi that is easier than other cars that I have worked on - took about an hour to install. You should be able to put good tires on it for less than $600.
The A/C problem on your BMW does sound scary - who told you that it needs an evaporator? When we faced this issue on our older Audi A4 with 140,000 miles, we sold it - repair was a large percentage of the value of the car.
Do know ahead of time that a VW/Audi with 70,000 is about to need a lot of expensive work, i.e. suspension bits that need replacement, timing belt/water pump/seals job, ABS controller, broken springs (yes, believe it!), small electrical parts, etc. We sold our A6 a month ago for this reason. A key question is what is and isn't covered in the CPO warranty.
