Difficult to say if Chinese cars will overall eat into Hyundai/Kia's market share or how soon that will occur - statistically younger buyers are boosting Hyundai/Kia market share largely at the expense of the Japanese makers and even the US makers are attracting more younger buyers than the Japanese.
I suspect Hyundai/Kia are enjoying some of the better margins in the entire industry - as you point out their designs and quality have improved and just as importantly they seem to have a good grasp of where the sweet spot in the market is for them - and it's a broad segment.
I have to laugh at the pic of the Amati or whatever that thing is. Years back in the late when I had my 1986 9000 I was skiing a lot in CO and would often meet up with a guy who bought a Hyundai Sonata, a couple of times early in the AM we would see each other driving up US 24 into the mountains, on one such occasion I saw him ahead of me about halfway up the pass and I drove by waving and honking my horn, he must have been driving at or near red line in an attempt to keep up and I see his car falling back trailing a big plume of white smoke as he had blown up his engine, lol.
