I think it is about 2007 era. Seems to work well as an appliance for them. They bought it used as a backup car. Only major issue that I've heard him complain about is rust, but they don't care much as it is an appliance. Not everyone up here rust proofs their cars but many do (and all should!)... so not just Hyundais. To be honest, while the Hyundais rust pretty quickly, I think Mazdas are probably the worst I've seen, and some of the cheap Fords (Focii) which are probably built on Mazda platforms anyway... By now, just about every early generation Focus I see on the road has no rocker panels left whatsoever. Scarey! Volvo V40 doesn't seem to rust as bad (isn't that also the same platform as focus and 3?)...
I am finding that the 9-5 is probably not as rust proof as older saabs... it's pretty good until something starts, and then it progresses very fast. The metal is more thin and the paint is not as good as on the c900. Those cars had a ridiculously tenacious primer from the factory - made it very hard for rust to spread... still, over time, it happens... oil spray makes a big difference!
