I don't back up anything. , on an edit Posted by vvack0matic [Email] (#1443) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vvack0matic) on Sat, 18 Jan 2014 11:23:58 In Reply to: Thanks, it sounds very much like what happened, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 18 Jan 2014 11:08:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
And don't run any virus protection. That garbage messes with the operation of the p.c. If a virus would happen to get into my p.c. somehow (unlikely) but if it did I enjoy nothing more than to hunt it out and delete it.
Its to bad the shop is going to put in a new operating program. Because if the p.c. was able to boot up into safe mode you could restore the comp to an earlier date like to nov 11th and the p.c. would restore its operating files it had at that date and leave your document files intact. Perhaps call the p.c. shop and have them try to restore the current operating system at an earlier restore point, and mention nov/11 should be tagged as a point in history. Would save the time of installing everything again and it would cost far less than a new operating system.
On an edit, after reading your post again. It may not be your fault at all. All p.c. Are programmed to auto update from Microsoft and will find a newer driver Microsoft is offering and the p.c. Will download this update automatically and install it with out you knowing because its on auto. These updates from Microsoft are not always wise to install. For instance Microsoft is offering my p.c. A new sound driver that is better than the one I have installed. My p.c. Asked me if it can download and install this new driver. I checked it out and told it yes, go ahead and instal it. After installation the driver did not work with my p.c. And there was no sound. I had to roll back the sound driver to my previouse sound driver to get the speakers working again. My p.c. Is programmed to ask me everything before doing anything if it was on auto update and install I would have no knowledge that it did an auto update and would have easily been misled thinking it was a virus. Perhaps you weren't hit with a virus but downloaded a bad update.
