I agree if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I went 1x9 because I was constantly having issues with front derailleur adjustment - either rubbing, or bouncing down... and it was always at a critical section. I never need granny or big ring in the trails - big ring just grinds on rocks anyway... so I put a rock ring on instead and went for a wide spread on the 9. The super wide ll sounds awesome. A friend has it on his ibis, but he's too damn short so I haven't tried it yet. I don't even have a chain guide and I've only lost it twice in over 2 years riding 1x9 in very rocky technical stuff.
