The pipes in question will hopefully never see use, but when they do they exist only to direct the venting hot water spray to floor level or within the drain pan for safety use.
Some locales may not allow their use. I remember that Chicago banned the use of PVC for DWV piping for years after it had been commonly adopted elsewhere.
