I did a lot of research. I am not ready for fan powered unit because of the noise and expectation that the fan would not last for 12+ years. With code changes next April, more features will be imposed.
Settled for the Whirlpool 6th Sense 50-Gallon 12-Year [transferable] Tall Gas Water Heater (Natural Gas) Model #: ND50T122-403 At Lowes only. Best price for features vs other building supply chains. Lowes will deliver to your basement if you are doing DYI. It has a motorized damper that reduces heat loss through the combustion heat exchanger.
And added the 12 full service extended warranty. Why? Electronics, electronic ignition, flammable vapor detection, and the motor powered damper and interlock.
High water pressures accelerate tank rust, but the passive/sacrificial anodes protect against that. The anodes have limited life and you may get 1 or 2 anodes depending on the model. The only difference in the life rating of the tanks is the anode life - length and diameter.
You can get a powered/active anode on some models that will never wear out. Have seen that on models with fan forced combustion features. Or you can retro fix a life time active anode.
When you replace sacrificial anodes, it is very difficult to remove the old ones. I think that the manufacturers really don't want people doing this maintenance. My 12YO unit was producing rust colored water. I put in a segmented manganese electrode and the water now shows no sign of rust. So hoping for the best.
