I would keep it going as long as you can. The 9-5 is by far the closest thing. Maybe look to Volvo or Audi after that. I wanted to like Subarus but none of them feel half as good as the Saabs. My wife found the same thing. WRX would be good handling for Subie, and good power, but a much smaller car than a 9000 or 9-5. 9-5 is a fantastic value right now, as they are unwanted but still have life left. 9-3ss is a bit smaller and tighter driving than the 9-5 and also cheap and fairly low maintenance. If you have a saab tech near I would definitely test out a newer 9-3: imho stick to a turbo 4 and maybe the wagon? If you were to get an older Suby (pre CVT), no questions, it's gotta be a manual... the 4 speed autobox = 3 speed saab autobox in the c900 (though maybe less fragile). Terrible on the highway.
But I would keep the 9000 going or find another if it is too rusted!
