I don't particularly "love" plasmas, I just like the best technology and performance for the price. I have one plasma TV and sometime in the future it'll be replaced by an OLED.

Yes, modern LCD TVs are *almost* as good as 5-10 year old plasmas (except motion blur). Call me weird, but I would prefer the best product, especially when it's cheaper (and Panasonic plasmas were considerably cheaper than the best LCDs)

And no, I'm not basing my opinion on old data. The article is 2 years old, because that's when it was clear that plasmas were dead. The inherent flaws in LCD panel technology hasn't changed since then and current LCD TVs still don't have as good contrast ratios, colors or viewing angles and suffer from very noticable motion blur.

As for the resolution vs. distance/screen size and the limits of the human eye, I'll just point out that it's physiology and the chart is accurate. This is also one of the reasons why I watch movies on a ~100" screen with a projector (LCD, because in my opinion LCD is the best tech for projectors, whether it be 3 chip, SXRD or D-ILA.). With 60" you still have to be sitting 5-6 feet away, to take advantage of 4k...

Here are more linked articles, including one from 2014, where the Panasonic guy at CES 2014 admitted that their newest 4K LED TVs weren't as good as their plasma, but "it's getting closer". Of course, you'd never get Panasonic to officially admit that the AX900 isn't as good as their last generation plasmas. That'd be like shooting themselves in their feet + an insult to all the people who bought one of the new LCDs...
