The 67 VW (first car I drove with a stalk-dimmer) had a funny non-electric button for the windshield washer. It wasn't much more than a plastic stick in the center tube of the windshield-wiper switch knob. And it didn't work.
Once I started digging & following tubing, I found an air-hose that was supposed to be connected to the valve stem of the spare tire up front. That was the pressure source for squirting the windshield.
