I think that is great that they are well made domestically (well, USA isn't domestic for me, but that's ok). I remember you guys praising them before but I wasn't too interested in top loaders due to the continuing higher costs (water + electrons)... I did a quick google search and I could find service info for the top loaders (not manufacturer docs though), but no service manuals for the front loader. doesn't mean they don't exist - I didn't look too hard.
It frustrates me that service manuals are hard to come by. These machines are not rocket science. I have an ee background and can trouble shoot electronics, so that doesn't scare me like it might for some. But it sure helps to have service manuals with the diagnostics codes, at least for the more sophisticated machines. I had something for our old Bosch washer, you run the program mode, it tells you what's wrong, you fix it. Simple. Kinda like owning a 9-5: you need a scan tool or you are guessing. They keep this secretive to keep techs employed, but that encourages some machines to get tossed due to the cost of a service call... also in the manufacturers self interest (sells more machines)... meh... it's one thing if the techs are huge value added like Miele, but Joe Blow Repair Guy often costs more and does not help - like the $100 service call to tell you it's going to cost more to fix than to buy a new machine. Miele (the 1 time in 10 years we used them) was $200/call, but they only charge for 1 service call in the year... even if they have to come back 4 times like they did to fix our very obscure problem - cost us $200 + a $100 part on a $2000 dishwasher. They actively want you to keep fixing their products, they hoard parts forever, and don't release them to other repair outfits. Would be nice to be able to DIY them, but if the service is knowledgeable and reasonably priced, I'm ok with paying an expert.
We're on new Bosch units and they are great, but I would consider SQ in the future if these ever become problematic. Thanks!
