The Allante was hyped as having the "world's longest auto assembly line" (Italy to Detroit, MI). It was a very nice car but didn't sell as well as expected. Annual sales ended up being about half what they hoped, averaging around 3,000 instead of 6,000. The Allante was an expensive car (over $100K in current dollars) but the Mercedes-Benz SL was even more expensive and sold better.
