I live in Apex NC, just outside of Raleigh. Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill are usually lumped together, but they each have thier own identity, thier own "vibe'. Same is true of the outlying towns like Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, Morrisville, fuquay Varina, etc. Each one is unique. And of course there are the other parts of NC: Western NC (both the Appalachain and the blue ridge ranges) and Eastern NC (beautiful beaches).

Feel free to reach out to me if you have specific questions about specific parts of NC.

The Raleigh area is becoming a bit overcrowded for my taste. Still much less crowded and slower paced than NJ, NY or even northern VA. So I suppose it depends on what you are used to.

in terms of weather:
We have all 4 seasons which is nice. It does get cold in winter, but not nearly as cold and not for nearly as long as up north. Summers are hot, but there is really only a month or so when it's *really* hot. Spring and fall are delightful, and both linger much much longer than they do up north.

we get snow but only occasionally, every other year or so on average. And we get very little. A 1 inch snowfall will generally close schools for days. We recently had a snowfall of 6 inches which is the most that we have had in nearly 20 years. We do have snowplows and salt (brine) spreaders now. It was not long ago when Raleigh had *one* snowplow.

The "snowstorm" of 2018:

this winter we had a week of temps in the teens, that is very unusual. Even the fountain in downtown Cary froze:

For me, its getting a little too crowded. I want less people and less traffic. And I want to be close to the water and close to my boat. I'll be moving east ... to Oriental NC, a small town on the "inner banks" of NC. The area is very rural, very quiet and peaceful. it suits me (though it would not suit everyone)

Oriental NC is the "big city" in the area, its also "The sailing capital of NC"
- human population: 800
- sailboat population: 1800
- Saab population: 1 (this will grow to 5 shortly :-) )

Downtown Oriental, the inner harbor:
