Greenville/Spartanburg in the year 2000 Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 6 Feb 2018 16:39:58 In Reply to: Re: Love the Carolinas, but, amicusterrae, Tue, 30 Jan 2018 08:37:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I visited an Engineering company in Greenville/Spartanburg that was working on an energy conservation project for my Detroit based manufacturing firm employer (ok, it was GM). I was surprised to see all the men in the office wearing dress pants, long sleeve white shirts, and ties. All the women in the office were wearing dresses with pumps, and I don't remember seeing any women performing what would be considered an engineering job assignment.
Working for a company which had embraced Business Casual attire, our team of 3-4 people were all wearing Khaki slacks and golf shirts, including the female engineer in our group.
I started working for GM in 1974 and the dress codes had already been relaxed to allow pastel colored or patterned shirts by that time. Our two day visit in 2000 was like a trip in a time machine.
