I received a phone call from the Hangar Owner on Thursday. Since I knew I was on their waiting list I expected them to tell me construction had been delayed due to Shelter-In-Place orders and the target date given to me earlier for availability of new units had been extended.
No, the call was to alert me they had a lessee cancel recently and they now had one empty unit. So I made an appointment to view the unit.
Basically one large empty corrugated metal T-shaped box. Approximately 42ft wide by 33ft deep in the center half with the outer quarters approximately 16ft deep. Limited lights, limited electrical receptacles, no heat (all of which I expected). 40ft x 12ft powered overhead door with an inset pedestrian door. Lounge at the end of last building; coffee station, restroom, comfortable chairs in which to sit and talk with others. Eight hangar buildings, fenced with security code to enter complex gate, and key or security code to enter specific units.
Two Lounges for the complex, one in first building (which maybe is reservable for family activities?) and the other in last building. Dedicated oil dumping station. All flammables in each Hangar MUST be kept in a rated Flammables Cabinet, lessee to provide.
Hangar area and occasionally Hangar Units are subject to periodic inspection by the County Airport Authority. The County provides the key pad combination and Swipe Card for the powered gate. In person interview is necessary. No background check necessary, but working at a Nuclear Plant already has me with a high clearance
Tempting. I need to contact my former co-worker who was planning to build a mini-Mustang when he retired two years ago. I would feel far better about this if there was actually a plane kit inside the Hangar. Without that, I am uncomfortable being in con-compliance with risk of potential eviction.
Photo is from a Hangar Kit Manufacturer website. The similarities are so striking that I am very confident it is the same vendor used for these hangars
