Atlanta seems like a tough market in more than just high-tech jobs... 3 of my friends in their 30's -2 people/business managers & 1 IT guy laid off last year have still not found new full-time positions. Not being a bitter, recently laid off employee may work in your favor immensely, as many of those under or un-employed in my field are not necessarily enthusiastic about placing their work ethic in jeopardy again from another round of corporate downsizing.
Stay positive (as others have said) and keep an open mind, as many jobs are filled by "knowing" someone who knows of an open position. I usually suggest temping around if worse comes to worse and you need cash in the short run. It lends valuable exposure to some real-life managerial styles and can be a great source for contacts if you can find temp positions in your desired field.
Best of luck in your search and happy saabing
