I've had a Weber performer for about 6 years now. There is nothing else. It is actually a Charcoal grill, the gas is strictly for starting the charcoal.
Its been outside since I got it in '97 through Canadian winters and its still as nice as it was the day I got it. Even the igniter still works.
With the charcoal baskets, propane start, and ash bin its as easy as gas to use (although you still have to wait for the charcoal to burn)
Gas is a poor substitute for charcoal. I must admit I've never used a high-end gas unit, but any gas BBQ I've ever tried just doesn't get hot enough- and that is the point of BBQing after all, is it not?
The extra flavour from the charcoal is nice, and with a Weber you can easily use it for a smoker too. Not much can beat ribs that've been smoking over low heat all afternoon.
I'll be posting my recipe for the ultimate burger once the weather gets a bit warmer.
