They were talking about the Viggen and mentioned it. I just didn't think about it before I wrote it but lets go ahead and take a look at this.

Comparing a stock saab turbo to a stock porsche naturally aspirated it won't be more efficient but comparing the saab turbo to a porsche turob you're right. But lets think about the porsche engines as you step up each trim level of the 911 ok. Basically all porsche is doing is there own in house modification of the engine just like we would when your upgrading with parts from maptun, nordic, sqr, or jak. Well when you compare the top of the line 2004 GT3 911 3.6L N/A at 375 or the 2002 GT2 911 which was a 3.6L twin turbo producing 462hp at 5700rpm (both of these were the first years I came accross for specs so i'm using them). So the GT3 gets 104 hp/L and the GT2 gets 126 hp/L and these are basically as fully tuned as they can get for the most part. Now lets take the 2006 9-5 aero engine, 260 hp at 5500 rpm out of a 2.3; thats 113 hp/L. Thats better than the GT3 and falls just short of the GT2. However lets consider that the B235 is just as capable as its predecsor the B234 once you place the stronger rods and pistons in. We all know its feasibly possible to achieve 450 to 500+ hp when fully tuned to its maximum with the aftermarket. Thats 196 to 217+ hp/L.

Now I'm not saying there isn't any aftermarket go fast parts for the top of the line GT3 or GT2 but I would be willing to bet any of those make them not street legal while all of our mods are still street legal. So in essence it is possible to have a Saab engine much more efficient than the 911 motors. As a sidenote, the peak power of the GT2 is only 200 rpm's higher then a B235's peak power.
