The age has nothing to do with it. The quality and type of driving instruction is the key. I live in CA where most of the teachers are from another country and speak poor english. Was that polite enough? Anyway, young drivers never achieve or encounter high speeds and G forces until they get their license. They get the car in a situation that they are not prepared for and lose it. All student drivers should undergo a high speed handling and defensive maneuvering class. It is difficult to respect speed and hazard conditions unless you have a little experience with it. I took my kids out to a vacant parking lot and set up a little course with turns, stops, backups and let them do it in the shortest time possible. What a riot!....But, it works.
