There is a large discussion going on about this subject. It has people on
one side saying there is global warming. These are usually normal educated
people with concerns about anything those people can get concerned about.
On the other end there's people that say there is no scientific evidence
for global warming. These are usually people with some interest in the
field; they have stocks, work for oil companies, are in any way related to
some business with interests in the field etc. I am not saying these
people are wrong, I just think there is something wrong with their position.
Meaning they are not objective. Neither am I, of course. I agree with them
on the point that if we take counter measures against global warming, it
would cost us in the west, due to slower economic growth etc. That leaves
the question whether we are willing to pay that price, based on the evidence
we now have. As a democrat, I'd say I have nothing against that if there
is a majority to be found for that.
I'd also say I would expect George W. Bush to be on what I just called
the other end of the scale. I think it's a disgrace to have some one in
power who is so biased to one side. Then on the other hand I like him,
when he is so much more outspoken and direct than the Clintons and Gores.
As for my own honest opinion, I think it's foolish not to slow down when
you see something coming, even if you don't know what it is, even if you
can't quite see ahead of you, even if you are arrogant and self-conceited
and think you can handle anything- even if you drive saabs.
