I agree, but to clarify my 9-5/c900 example... in snow/slush/ice, the c900 starts faster, stops faster, and can take a corner faster. Much faster! So those are the characteristics required for a panic situation. ABS/TCS is for sure helpful in a panic steering stop, but the same can be achieved by a driver well skilled in threshold braking. If I take the same slippery corner in the c900, the 9-5 with TCS on, and the 9-5 with TCS off, the c900 can take it the fastest, the 9-5 with TCS on is not as good, and TCS off is awful. So TCS definitely improves that situation, but it is not a panacea.

In dry conditions, we rarely encounter panic/slipping conditions, pushing traction to the limit, but in winter, it is a daily/continuous consideration. Basically everything in snow/ice has to happen slower, so perfect vehicle dynamics and high power output is completely wasted. A bare bones c900 has more than enough power and handling tightness for snow. I agree that TCS doesn't help with body roll etc, which is where the 9-5 shines wrt the c900 in the dry. One would have to push the speed to get TCS to fire in the 9-5 on a dry cloverleaf, and the c900 would never make it around at that speed due to many factors, eg the much skinnier/taller tires!

However, the c900 is very good at telling you "you're taking this too fast!" long before it would ever be a problem. Some of those taller vehicles give less margin - I was driving a minivan once and nearly rolled it on a cloverleaf (going half the speed I would have taken the same curve in the c900)... the transition from "A-ok" to "Oh $#!t" was almost instantaneous and not subtle! So to me, that is an important characteristic for a car kids will drive, and also, like you say, to learn those warning feelings you get from the car! Easy for kids to get distracted by phones, passengers, etc and never really get this.
