That'd be my question too. You need to be a little scientific and measure the actual oil consumption with consistent technique, hot motor, level ground, 5 minutes after shutoff, type of a thing.
Let's say it does use a quart every 750 miles. That's not the end of the world, annoying yes, but I certainly wouldn't do a major overhaul to avoid chucking a quart of oil in every 2-3 fill ups. The 9-3SS has a 6 quart sump too giving plenty of safety margin.
I wonder if you could use a 20-50 or some kinda' heavier oil in the car to slow the oil use? The thinner oil specified often relates to a fuel economy advantage, not better engine protection.
