The car has great documentation of all the services it's had since the original purchase. Oil changes every 6500 miles, warranty issues addressed, drivers heated seat replaced this year (still doesnt' work) and several other odds and ends (mostly electrical issues). The previous owner had mentioned to the dealership (where he had all his oil changes done) to the fact he'd topped of the coolant on two occasions outside of the scheduled maintenance and also mentioned once he'd added a quart of oil since the last OC.
I have been "scientific" about measuring the level of oil, (level ground, waiting 5-10 minutes for engine to cool, etc.), and have been carefull to not add too much.
My father-in-law has a Mercedes and said his oil consumption was unusually high until he tried 3000 miles on "traditional oil", which after went back to fully synthetic and said he hasn't had to top it off since.
The dealership did a compression test and leak down test, and that's where they determined the need to replace the rings. The dealer also inspected the cylinder walls and said they all looked normal.
I am ready to just live with the oil consumption. I really like this car, and only want to take good care of it. I will take all advice into carefull consideration. Great site!!!!! If I solve this problem is this the best place to reply??? I just would like to inform everyone of the solution if I can......
