If it was burning that much oil I'd expect you'd see smoke.
Unless the reason is obvious, someone needs to do a compression and leak down test to see if the rings are shot. Other things are valve guide seals, or leaking from turbo into the intake. Or maybe like someone said it was already pretty low when you picked it up and it will stabilize.
They are sophisticated machines but the basics principles of oil control in a reciprocating engine and how to troubleshoot it have not changed that much.
