As Mike mentioned below this engine has a 6-1/4 quart (6 litre for the rest of the world) oil sump. A careless (or un-informed) oil change person might have "assumed" this small motor only needed 4 quarts at its last oil change.
Voila! an instant "oil consumption" of 2-1/4 quarts that never happened.
Even if you topped-off multiple times, did you check the dip-stick after each quart was added? It would be real easy for many of us to see low oil level on the dip-stick, add a quart, and think the sump is now full without actually checking it. Not necessarily smart, but an easy mistake to make.
