In your earlier photo, the black drum-shaped thing with the silver rod is the outside of the air box, and is likely the part that houses the drum that controls the distribution to the ducts (and its motor is on the passenger side). It shouldn’t move.
The yellow shaft you are turning turns a different drum inside the airbox and I’m not sure you can see the drum itself from your side. In addition, if you look carefully at the photo of the stop arm on that Platonoff site (3rd photo down on left) you can see that the stop arm and shaft has a pretty narrow range of motion by design.
Leave it apart, heat the car up and with the heat on, manually turn the shaft and see if you get heat from the port where the duct would attach.
Based on what you are showing it feel like replacing the stop arm and getting everything realigned will help with the code 8.
