I believe that they were for UK cars. It was something about emissions for them. The Carlsson version of the C900 had them installed so those were the 175hp versions if that is the way they rated them there. In other words, a higher performance car than the everyday car. They might have been in others as well. I guess the EPC would tell the effectivity of UK built vehicles.
Since the primaries effect all the gears, the ratios go longer across the board. The difference is a final drive of .72 instead of .78 so roughly 8% difference in rpm drop.
