I did try to put it so it was not an advertisment. I will pay Scott and put it in the classifieds if I go that route.
Here is the story on this car. I am the third owner. The car was always serviced by Saab. The entire life/165K miles. At about 100K the original owner put a new trans, new springs, new shocks, new saab calipers and rotors, new headliner etc...
The second owner was an older man that was local to the first owner. He only had it a year. His only two services was also at the same dealer in Maryland.
The Whale tail has been on the car for years, but it is in excellent shape. I fully refinished it a few years ago. All new hardware, new paint and I have kept the rubber in great shape using German gumifledge.
When I started this project last spring, I was able to buy a new factory dash from Saab. According to them at the time, it was the last one in the world. It is still new in the box. I also bought new winsheild seals, new fender trims and every spg install kit component that was left in the system.
Reverse gear had started to pop out, so I bought a completely rebuilt transmission from James Glass Saab in Charlottesville. He mated it to a re-sealed engine block with 89K miles. The trans is also from an 89 turbo.
The interior is perfect in the car. There are no rips in the seats, the headlines has been replaced and I put a new leather shift knob, new steering wheel and new leather shift boot in it about 3 years ago.
The sport exhaust is used, but was media blasted and hed less than 10k miles on it. It shows like new.
The finncial issue, is not really there either. I have the money to finish the car, but like I said, I am wondering about the end of project.
I am unsure about the quality of work the body shop will do. If I had a rotisserie, I would take the car all the way down. I have reached out to John Williams, but he is only in it for his own cars.
I got good references, but I am skeptical of how hard they will look for rust. This is my biggest fear, I will invest 8-10K now, and in three years, I will see the magic bubbles reappear.
The worst issue is that I love this car. It is my third Tally Red SPG, I bought the first one in the spring of 1991.
I am really at a crossroads. Finally, I have no way to price this. I am at a total loss on that one. I would do ebay, but I would rather see it go to folks here.
With that said, I would rather see someone finish what I have started. My wife says I wont let go because I dont want to see the car in the junkyear.....I think she is right.
Thank you for the feedback...please keep it coming.
Warm regards,
Stephen
