Don't just throw parts at it Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Wed, 11 Dec 2019 16:05:18 In Reply to: Re: Help Needed..... or car may have to, Name Left Blank, Wed, 11 Dec 2019 08:22:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
More diagnosis is needed. I offered up the possibility of that distributor connector since it happened to me, but the cause of your no-start problem could be completely different.
I would not splice into the original wiring unless necessary. That wiring from the distributor does go into the wiring harness as you observed. A wiring diagram would show you where it goes and you can check for continuity. I think I only have that on hand for the 16-valve engine but will check.
Don't forget that a bad Hall effect sensor or bad ignition module will also cause a no-start situation, as will a bad ignition switch. (I've had that happen as well!) There may be a relay involved in the circuit also, I don't recall since I haven't looked at this stuff in a while. A fault anywhere along the line will prevent spark.
Also you sounded pretty confident that it's ignition, but a simple test you can do to confirm this is to spray some starter fluid into the air intake and crank it. If the engine still doesn't fire you have no spark. If it does briefly fire up then you have spark and the problem lies elsewhere.
