Thinking way back, I had the same problem with my '84 900T. I was overheating the engine due to a partially clogged original radiator. No chance to fix that, just drive slower. The connection on the side of the distributor is close to the coolant outlet and caused the rubber housing to deteriorate. The 3 connections from the 2 wires & the braided housing were fouled. I lucked into a near complete wiring harness & from that spliced a replacement for the 3 leads. Also installed a Nieson radiator, like a new car!! Not a problem since.
