Chain guide/pad inside valve cover and sprockets questions.. Posted by Rose quartz 87 [Email] (#2119) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rose quartz 87) on Tue, 22 Mar 2022 16:39:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi All,
Got a noisy timing chain on start up. Had the tensioner out, its at 8.3mm. The guides don't look worn. (Guides, replaced with chain some 5 years, not many miles ago!). Sprockets are original and the chain does move a bit back and forth, (bulk head to rad directions), in the sprockets. Also the rubber insert in the timing cover has seen better days. I've ordered some from a few different sites and all are too wide for my application. (MY 87 turbo). They aren't narrow enough to fit in the 'holder' in the valve cover.
Did they make thinner ones for the earlier cars? Also, is the chain allowed to move at all in the sprockets?
Thanks for reading.
