If that's the guide that you're using on your valve cover in the picture that does not look that bad I've seen much worse on engines. When the car was running could you hear a noise coming from where that guide was at. Sometimes that guide can get loose if you bend those little metal tabs down onto the guide and help hold it in place it will quiet that guide down. Just a thought. Yeah I've been waiting for months to do that fix finally decided to do it today on the brake lines. In all my years I've only replaced maybe two lifters and I've seen several reach that 2 to 300,000 mile Mark and still be quiet. That's definitely odd hopefully you can get it figured out.
