I don’t have any experience with the LEDs, but it sounds like something coming off the electronics. Could you come in the bulb hole in the back with some sort of brush or foam pad to try to remove the white coating? I remember one time having some dirt in a headlight and I used window cleaner by sloshing it around in the headlight. Then I followed that with several distilled water rinses. After that I just left the headlight in the sun to dry.
